The visionary game developer, who helped create the immensely successful video game Call of Duty, has tragically died in a traffic collision in California aged 55.

His passing was announced by Electronic Arts, the publisher that controls Respawn Entertainment, the video game company which he helped establish.

The influential game designer lost his life when his car crashed and caught fire on a highway in LA on Sunday morning, US media outlets report.

"This represents an unimaginable loss, and our hearts are with his family and friends, his loved ones, and everyone impacted by his creative vision," a representative from Electronic Arts commented.
