Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and performative fashion, including the pastel suits that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance online."

This news arrives less than a month after he debuted his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing menswear at Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping sculptural silhouettes established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he began working on pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included several ensembles for her US tour after assuming the title.

After a career spanning half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.

  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

Design circles says farewell to a true visionary whose impact on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
