American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "in a good place" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, following securing a place on the rostrum for the fourth instance in her last five World Cup competitions. The 41-year-old, who last week set a record by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her 142nd career World Cup podium finish. Strong Return in the French Alps Returning to the iconic venue for the first occasion in eight years, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot. "I was slightly lacking the right line on the initial jump," Vonn remarked. "After that, I skied well. I'm pleased with my skiing today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative." This performance was her second podium at Val d'Isere during the event, having also claimed bronze in the downhill race on Saturday. A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement Vonn ended her career in February 2019 because of ongoing knee problems. However, she returned to racing in late 2024 following a significant orthopedic procedure. With less than two months remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's form are timely. She already possesses an Olympic gold and two Olympic bronze medals in her collection and is firmly on track to represent the United States at the 2026 Games. "When we get to Cortina, I will be fully ready," Vonn affirmed. Chasing More Titles Alongside her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four overall crystal globes she has won over a professional journey spanning 20 years. She currently holds a substantial lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is sitting in fifth place in the overall super-G standings. This current World Cup campaign features a total of nine races scheduled before the circuit finale in Norway on 21 March 2026.
