Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in response for a large-scale and ongoing attack against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has remained silent.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on Iran carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck locations linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with high efficiency and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.

It said wreckage fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
