Additionally there were the three critical turnovers, and the pair from Josh Allen in particular. An pass caught by defense in the scoring area resulting in a nine minute possession yielded no points, and his final quarter dropped ball that the Dolphins turned into a touchdown just two plays

It was classic 'previous Bills teams' as they shot themselves in the foot, getting into a deficit on defense and Josh Allen trying to do too much to dig his team from the situation - not the calm, controlled, balanced Buffalo team we've witnessed this year

The Dolphins have served up a varied performances this season so the jury's out on whether this is the beginning of a trend, but for Buffalo they'll require an immediate bounce-back in a difficult matchup against the Buccaneers next week as the Patriots are sneaking into a comfortable advantage at the summit of the AFC East

Speaking of the Patriots, they're among three different eight and two squads in the league, all American Football Conference teams, but are they the top team?

Although you can debate who 'the best' is technically, the Pats should be favorites to finish with the top record due to their schedule - which features just a single matchup against a successful opponent, albeit a significant contest against the Bills

Traveling to Baltimore is also tough, but the Broncos have it more difficult in the AFC West with the Chiefs to play twice, the Los Angeles Chargers (who might also compete for first place but encounter the identical challenge) and additionally the Packers on the schedule

The Indianapolis also face the Kansas City, and have the Seattle, 49ers and two games with the five and four Jacksonville to contend with. There's a long way to go but the door is available for a surprise number one position in the AFC

Both could easily be without a loss as too - particularly the Los Angeles as their pair of losses came in extra time against the San Francisco and then that agonising loss in Philadelphia when they had a potentially winning kick with the final play blocked and returned by the Philadelphia for a score

Seattle were also defeated to San Francisco, with a late touchdown in the opening week, before losing to the final play of the contest against the Tampa Bay - so they're genuinely among the best sides in the league

The next matchup on Sunday could be the best of the season so far
